The Grand Central Railway
On what must have been the coldest Summer day of the century, some hardy people from the Railway Group spent a morning on the Grand Central Railway. I think it’s one of the best preserved railways in Britain. It’s double tracked, and the stations have all the features of their time. Apart from the ride on the train pulled by a wonderful steam engine, there is so much to look at on the four stations. Lamp rooms, left luggage offices, refreshment rooms and waiting rooms.
It’s well worth a trip there for the day. Go to Rothley where there is ample parking and two very good cafes. You won’t regret it!.... Rachel Roffe.
