Day trip to Northampton
78 Derngate is one of the most fascinating small houses in England – the only one here designed by the celebrated Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Included in the £29.50 cost is a guided tour of the house – NB: there is a lift but there are some stairs. Elsewhere in Northampton town centre is the refurbished Museum & Art Gallery with its celebrated shoe collection (plus a good café), All Saints Church, rebuilt in 1680 and associated with John Clare, the Grosvenor Shopping Centre, and only a short walk away, the market and the Round Church, one of only four remaining.
