ST EDMUNDS, EGLETON
Our September visit was to the small church of St Edmunds, Egleton. Even our small churches can have a depth of history and a uniqueness that makes them out of the ordinary. St Edmunds was a small church with no grand house in the local vicinity so it was passed over in the Victorian revival and has no grand memorials dotted over its walls. Its very simplicity gives it great charm along with the fact that it has retained its distinctive Norman doorway arch and arch into the chancel. The Church Treasurer gave us an interesting talk about the church and the challenges of its renowned bat roost which has over 1000 pipistrel bats.
